By force of will alone, can you raise the temperature of your hand?
You cannot hit a target that you cannot see. But imagine holding a very
sensitive thermometer on your hand with a large sensitive display. The
temperature jiggles up and down a bit even when you aren't doing anything.
Very sensitive.
Within a few minutes, you will discover that when you relax, your hand
will warm up. And you can bring down the temperature also by somehow restricting
the blood flow. With more training time, you will gain a skill for keeps.
You will be able to regulate your hand temperature any time you want warmer
hands. You also have the power to lower your blood pressure. You more
self-sufficient in self-regulation!
The Brain can Learn to Wave Better.
All 100 billion of your nerve cells, or neurons, are firing at least
once a second. Most are firing faster. Some are pulsing at 10, 20, 40,
even 80 times a second. Everybody has a different proportion of nerve
cells firing at different rates.
Nerve signals travel up into the nerve cell body and out again. There
is a dim electrical echo after each neurochemical reaction starts a blip.
A cup sensor placed on the head can read these electrical echoes like
a tiny satellite dish. An EEG can processes these faint signals.
Yes, it is like taking a stethoscope to the kitchen and placing it on
the oven door. You can tell that something is cooking. But you can't tell
what it is.
Using an EEG, brainwave biofeedback shows you how fast your brain cells
are firing. Once sensor can read about 100,000 nerve cells nearest to
the skull. The sensors can pick up the tiny electrical byproduct of your
neurochemistry in action.

As with any biofeedback, when you can watch your pattern of frequencies,
you can learn to control how much of which frequencies you are producing.
Most everyone can learn adjust the habitual pattern of their own neurons.
In some systems you inhibit 'dreamy' brain waves with 'alert' brain waves.
In another, you replace jerky burst patterns with smooth undulating fluctuations.
This occurs because you can see what you are doing and changing as you
go.
Hand temperature biofeedback looks just like learning. It has a predictable
learning curve and even a forgetting curve. The skill is isolated. Neurofeedback
progress can go fast, slow or sideways. There tend to be side-benefits,
like better sleep and intimacy. The mental focus is enduring and even
the side benefits stay with you.
Now brain biofeedback uses computers with computer games or other displays
to provide positive feedback to train the brain. Most everyone says that
after learning to control their brain waves, they are able to concentrate
better. They can focus more attention at will. What other learning tool
can boost an IQ score by 10 or 20 points?
Lots of different people use this ability to concentrate such as those
who want to be a better athlete, singer, executive, student, or scholar.
All kinds of people use it for whatever they do. Better concentration
makes for better memory too.
It's just natural learning. Nobody has had much of a problem with this
method since people started doing it 30-40 years ago. It never made anybody
sick or stupid or anything. Only about 80% to 90% of the people get the
results they wanted, but that's pretty good.
Most of the scientific research has been to help people with problems.
But you don't need a problem to benefit from brain wave training. It's
good for everybody! And after a million EEG sessions starting decades
ago, we are sure it is one of the safest things you will do all week.
There are so many kinds of problems. Nothing has gotten more kids off
Ritalin for good than brainwave training or neurofeedback. These are some
problems scientists have proven go away and do not come back with brainwave
feedback training.

Even criminality
An incredible 85% of the 2776 felony prisoners that received neurofeedback
were not re-arrested within 3 years. Between 1970 and 1995 the
research at the Ontario Corrections Institute is clear that 3-year recidivism
was an unparalleled 15%.
Those helping alcoholics and substance abusers see that many addicts
simply drop their bad habits. That is a very different result than with
other methods.
How can anything be so good for so many different things?
We're not sure exactly. The brain is more complex that our mind can comprehend.
Perhaps when showing the brain how to adjust itself, it naturally finds
a better way to work. Like being stuck and not knowing how to move. When
the ability to change brain waves is learned, the brain has more choices
and naturally chooses efficiency and health. The goals of neurofeedback
are greater stability and flexibility.
I think of this as assistance in completing the development nature intended.
All the results can be explained as opening paths to inform neural feedback
loops and reinforcing the normal mechanisms to enable self-regulation.
The brain can be mapped showing electrical signature, blood flow or magnetism
or in other ways to image brain activity. Before pictures of disorders
are grotesque. After neurofeedback sessions, those maps show better balance,
fewer dull or glaring areas, and a more wholesome, robust pattern of functioning.
All from learning how to wave your brain waves. You do it yourself.
How come I never heard of this?
Good question. I don't know a good answer. Maybe money? Or stodgy reputations?
It is freely available. Anybody who is an expert will not be an expert
anymore after they accept this.
